Zsolt Torok

Dr. Zsolt Török is a senior researcher at the Danube delta National Institute for Research and Development and holds his PhD in Biology from the Bucharest University in Romania. His research and consultancy work is related to biodiversity conservation, ecology of species of conservative interest, stock-assessment in aquatic natural resources (frogs, crayfishes, leeches), environmental impact assessments (onshore wind-farms, quarries, nuclear power plant). He led national research projects (inventory of Romanian wetlands in 1997–2001 period, establishment of Natura 2000 network in Romania in 2003–2006 period, nation-wide monitoring of amphibians and reptiles of Community Interest 2012–2015 period etc.), regional projects (scientific background for monitoring Natura 2000 species and habitats - Danube Parks project), and international projects (on wetlands of international importance, funded by Ramsar Small Fund; on conservation of Meadow Vipers and on providing scientific background for management plan of Macin Mountains National Park, funded by LIFE-Nature program). Zsolt an author of the first national reports on the status of amphibians and reptiles from Romania, submitted in 2013 to the European Commission, according to Art. 17 of the Habitats Directive.
